LETTER: B.C. housing targets benefit development community

LETTER: B.C. housing targets benefit development community

In the recent article titled: “Victoria, Saanich, Oak Bay must build 10K housing units in 5 years: B.C.”, it is mentioned that the mandatory targets set by the province require that “Victoria, Saanich and Oak Bay have to deliver 4,902, 4,610 and 664 units, respectively.”
LETTER: Loss of parking causing neighbourhood friction

LETTER: Loss of parking causing neighbourhood friction

In a time when both housing and parking are in short supply, it seems the District of Saanich may have wanted to consult local taxpayers about how to improve parking along many streets that are not up to par for city streets. Many of the roads in Saanich do not have sidewalks, let alone proper parking availability.
LETTER: All road users should be on best behaviour

LETTER: All road users should be on best behaviour

In response to the article about cyclists becoming a nuisance, I would like to respond first with an apology to any driver, cyclist or pedestrian I’ve offended. I will be the first to admit, I’ve not always put my best foot forward in my capacity as a cyclist, driver or pedestrian. I am not an offensive person and I would rather not give a negative impression while participating in any form of transport.

LETTER: Council was correct to change course on pet strategy

This is in response to Lora and Ted Lea’s recent letter.
LETTER: Off-leash dogs kept to small section of PKOLS

LETTER: Off-leash dogs kept to small section of PKOLS

The letter from Ted Lea about off-leash dogs in PKOLS was very misleading. PKOLS has been leash-optional for well over 20 years.

LETTER: Carbon tax works its way up the food chain

I don’t claim to be an expert economist but here are a few things I know for sure.
LETTER: Grateful for help after fall

LETTER: Grateful for help after fall

I recently had a fall while working out in the weight room at Westshore Parks and Recreation. I wish to thank the patrons and weight room staff who came to my aid. Thank you to the paramedics, to the Victoria General Hospital emergency staff and the orthopedic clinic staff. So many people with so much care and compassion. Thank you all.
LETTER: Saanich has indulged dog owners for too long

LETTER: Saanich has indulged dog owners for too long

After months of biting my tongue on the district’s People, Pets and Parks Strategy, I now feel compelled to speak out. Quite frankly, the pro-dog zealots are a disgrace. Admittedly, some of the comments raised by this group have merit (i.e. the difficulties of holding a leash for a person in a wheelchair) but the vast majority of this group’s assertions associated with what I believe to be a very proactive and balanced strategy, are beyond absurd.

Re: ‘Saanich raises road to slow fast-moving cyclists’ by Chris Campbell.
LETTER: Trade-offs are part of life

LETTER: Trade-offs are part of life

Trade-offs are part of life. A choice that brings more of X leaves less of Y. Wherever we are on the cost/benefit spectrum, voters seem to take the benefits for granted and blame the government for the costs. And they confuse this irate stance with “good citizenship.”
