The letter from Ted Lea about off-leash dogs in PKOLS was very misleading. PKOLS has been leash-optional for well over 20 years.
Saanich, in the interest of the environment (and non dog lovers), has mandated that all trails except a 2.3-km loop be designated on leash only, thereby removing the dogs off trail issue. The loop was approved by consultants as being able to support dog traffic.
Ted’s letter is extremely misleading as 98 per cent of the park will be on leash/trail only dog activity. Saanich was rightly considering the environment and balancing the two-thirds of Saanich that supported some off-leash areas.
