LETTER: Cyclists should be licensed

LETTER: Cyclists should be licensed

I read with interest the article by Samantha Holomay on the unsafe Uptown intersection. Nicole Francis, mentioned in the article, is quite right in her comment about vehicles turning with little regard for those crossing the road (I include reference to bicycles as vehicles).
LETTER: Protected bike lanes create new set of issues

LETTER: Protected bike lanes create new set of issues

Driving around looking at all the concrete barriers supposedly designed to protect cyclists makes a person think about the new problems that will come up because of them.
LETTER: Medical system in disarray

LETTER: Medical system in disarray

The article on the Victoria man furious with operating room and staff shortage makes me extremely angry.
LETTER: Populist message strikes a chord in this complicated world

LETTER: Populist message strikes a chord in this complicated world

Former U.S. president Donald Trump speaks “truth to power,” we often hear, which supposedly explains why so many admire him. The fact that he often comes across as an egomaniac is irrelevant to the message, almost beside the point.
LETTER: Dog walkers have been used as a scapegoat for park degradation

LETTER: Dog walkers have been used as a scapegoat for park degradation

To be brief, I am totally against Saanich council’s People, Pets and Parks strategy.
LETTER: A driving force to stop climate change

LETTER: A driving force to stop climate change

I read, with admiration, the article about the demonstration at the Legislature regarding global warming with David Suzuki at its helm – what a valiant fighter he is, even at his advanced age.
LETTER: SD61’s turf field decision short-sighted

LETTER: SD61’s turf field decision short-sighted

Repeating the same thing and expecting a different result is short-sighted, to say the least. So it’s baffling why School District 61 would choose to replace one crumbling artificial turf field at Oak Bay High with the same stuff.
LETTER: Time to end oil and gas industry’s influence on government

LETTER: Time to end oil and gas industry’s influence on government

Are you worried about climate change? Me too. Polls increasingly show most of us are. With good reason.
LETTER: Blocking news content hurts ordinary Canadians

LETTER: Blocking news content hurts ordinary Canadians

In a ruthless move, Meta – owner of Facebook and Instagram – recently killed all Canadian news content on its social media platforms, effectively blocking anyone from viewing news content or posting links to it themselves. Major Canadian news providers, smaller media companies, journalists, and ordinary citizens are just collateral damage in this act of retaliation by the social media behemoths to Canada’s new Online News Act. Google threatens to follow suit.
LETTER: Council decision on pet strategy creates distrust

LETTER: Council decision on pet strategy creates distrust

The decision by Saanich council to ram through the People, Pets and Parks Strategy enrages me on two fronts. The first is the lack of democratic process. Council’s refusal to work with, at no cost, professional environmentalists, dog trainers, disability groups, and other stakeholders as well as the decision to not contact each household in Saanich to explain the proposal in the first place makes it impossible to believe council is representing the people and screams undue influence.
