A Comox Valley school has a confirmed exposure of COVID-19.
On Jan. 10, Island Health announced NIDES/Navigation Distance Education at 2505 Smith Road in Courtenay had an exposure event on Jan. 4, 5, and 6.
In a letter to parents, families and staff, NIDES noted a member of the NIDES school community has tested positive, is isolating and is being followed by Island Health.
They added the exposure is limited to the DL program operating at the Tsloum campus and does not affect the general student population.
Island Health has completed contact tracing to identify any staff and students that need to self-isolate or self-monitor for symptoms.
The health authority noted if a parent, guardian or family member does not receive a phone call or letter from public health, students should continue to attend school.
Currently, there are six COVID-19 school exposures throughout Vancouver Island – one in Victoria, one in Chemainus, three in Duncan and one in Courtenay.
