Parksville was named one of Canada’s Top 10 cities for retirement, according to an article by Insight Magazine.
The city’s mild year round climate, scenic golf courses and parks were noted, along with opportunities for boating, kayaking, and otherwise enjoying the Strait of Georgia.
“Parksville is a great place to call home and for so many reasons,” the City of Parksville said via email to the PQB News. “Our lively community, a variety of outdoor activities for those seeking an active lifestyle, great amenities, stunning scenery, and milder temperatures make Parksville an ideal retirement spot. It is these same things which appeal to families with young children wishing to live here. We have an amazing quality of life in Parksville made even better by a strong sense of belonging in our community.”

The executive director of the Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce, Amir Tabatabaei, agrees the city is a great spot for retirement, and added it’s also a safe and inclusive community to raise a family, start a business and enjoy the area’s world class nature.
“More and more people are choosing to come to Parksville to start a new life, to be part of this wonderful community, ” Tabatabaei said. “I know from personal experience! I am from Manchester in the UK, by all accounts a world class city in its own right, but like many people who visit and fall in love with this place, within a couple of weeks of being here, I was smitten.”
Parksville joined Victoria and the Okanagan Valley for B.C. locales named on the list, which also includes Calgary, Canmore, Alta., Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., Ottawa, Quebec City, Fredericton and Halifax.
