The undefeated VIU Mariners earned two more wins this weekend against a nationally ranked opponent as they get ready for national championships, now just a month away.
Vancouver Island University’s women’s volleyball team (16-0) defeated the Douglas Royals (10-7) on Friday and Saturday in Pacific Western Athletic Association action at the VIU gym.
The Mariners dropped the first set on Friday but handled the Royals from there, winning 20-25, 25-16, 25-17, 25-19. In Saturday’s rematch, the M’s won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.
VIU’s women’s v-ball team, defending four-time national champions, will host the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association championships at the VIU gym from March 8-11.
The Mariners, guaranteed a berth, will be trying for a fifth-straight title, a feat that has never been accomplished in CCAA history.
