Keith Nicol, who teaches cross-country skiing at Mount Washington, has released his 20th cross-country ski improvement video on You Tube.

“I began doing these videos a few years ago for my classes when I taught at Memorial University in Newfoundland,” he said. “I was teaching a course in winter outdoor pursuits, and cross-country and telemark skiing were part of the curriculum, so I started to do some learn-to-ski videos for my students. They also caught on with the general public. This winter, my You Tube channel passed the three million view mark with over 2,700 subscribers, which is pretty good for videos on Nordic skiing. In fact, one video on learning to skate on skis is approaching the one million view mark.”

Nicol and his wife Heather retired to the Comox Valley three years ago, and have since been enjoying the skiing at the resort. Lately, he’s been making videos at Mount Washington. His 20th production is Learning to angulate to improve downhill ski technique for x-c skiers. It can be viewed at www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVPf4xviaHk

Nicol also teaches Nordic skiing for the popular Supercamps in early winter at Silver Star and Sovereign Lake Nordic ski areas near Vernon. He says he often gets ideas for videos from these camps, which attract x-c skiers from around North America and Europe.
