BCHL: Alberni Valley Bulldogs grab overtime win in Game 3 against Surrey Eagles

Surrey Eagles lead the series 2-1

The Alberni Valley Bulldogs grabbed an overtime win against the Surrey Eagles in Game 3 of the BC Hockey League’s Coastal Conference Finals.

The Bulldogs returned home to the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Wednesday, May 8 down 2-0 in the series. Cheered on by a home crowd dressed in red, the Bulldogs managed to pull off a 3-2 win against Surrey in overtime.

Hayden Stavroff got things started for the Bulldogs at 8:42 of the first period, but Surrey’s Nathan Oickle tied things up just a few minutes later on the powerplay.

The Bulldogs struck first again in the second period, with Jacob Terpstra grabbing a powerplay marker. But the Eagles once again tied things up with a powerplay marker of their own from Aaron Schwartz.

There was no scoring in the third period, so the game went to overtime. It was Stavroff who played the hero for the Bulldogs, grabbing the game-winning goal at 14:16 of the overtime period.

The Surrey Eagles now have a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs in the Coastal Conference Finals. Game 4 of the series will take place at the Alberni Valley Multiplex on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m.
