Marijuana smoke clouds ugly

The 4-20 massive pot gatherings just plain ridiculous

Every year after the 4/20 smoke-up or whatever you want to call it, the idea of legalizing marijuana seems more preposterous.

Here you have a bunch of people looking like idiots puffing away on stubbles of paper and into giant tubes.

The volume of the event in Vancouver really makes you think. Is this going to be more of a regular occurrence in public once marijuana is legalized? If so, we’re in for big trouble.

There are several ironies to the huge gathering in Vancouver, in particular. The ages range from teens to old men and ladies, who are essentially still trying to relive their youth.

Within the crowd are Vegans, vegetarians and actual health nuts who exercise like demons. And, for some reason, to counteract all that healthy behaviour, they smoke pot.

It seems like such a contradiction to the other facets of their lifestyles. Others, of course, in the crowd are probably just wasted all the time and don’t seem too concerned if their bodies last another few weeks or a month.

The damage done to the site of this confined free-for-all is just unacceptable.

The supposed medicinal qualities of marijuana are one thing, but these public displays of pure nonsense involving recreational use are quite another.

As we head closer to legalization, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau still has no idea how many elements are going to play out, especially with law enforcement to crack down on marijuana impaired driving, so the provinces can’t do much to prepare.

Good on the Municipality of North Cowichan for at least taking a stand on grow operations on the Agricultural Land Reserve and limiting it to industrially-zoned lands.

With Trudeau’s leadership, the whole country is soon going to pot in more ways than one.
