April 25, 1928 - August 30, 2022
In loving memory ~
Yvette was born on April 25, 1928 in Victoria BC and passed away on August 30th at the age of 94.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Brent Friday. She is survived by her six children - Tom (Beth), Jann (Jeff), Richard (Jody), Jim (Shelly), Deirdre (Brad), and Nanci, as well as 19 Grandchildren and numerous Great Grandchildren.
Yvette grew up in Vancouver with her four siblings. After obtaining her Teaching Certificate she worked in several small community schools in BC. In 1952 she married Brent Friday, and they moved to Lake Cowichan finally settling in Honeymoon Bay to raise their family. While living in Honeymoon Bay, she was very involved in Garden Clubs, Community Activities, Brownies and Girl Guides, eventually becoming the Girl Guide District Leader. Mom also loved being part of the Lake Drama Club and she had parts in award winning plays.
She returned to teaching after her own children reached school age. Mom taught Kindergarten and Grade One for several years in many schools in the Lake Cowichan School District. It has been heart-warming to hear the many memories shared to us by our Mom's past students, often referring to Mrs. Friday as their favourite teacher.
Upon retiring, Yvette and Brent moved to Quadra Island to live in their summer home. Many happy times were spent on Quadra Island where they hosted many rowdy visits from family and friends. In the years at Quadra, Yvette loved to knit, quilt and do crafts. She had such amazing patience as she passed these new skills on to others.
While living on Quadra Island she talked about friendships made in the Quadra Quilting Club, with people in the neighbourhood and with many community members from the Island.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude towards the staff at the Chemainus Health Care Centre for the compassionate care they provided for Mom. Thank you Dr. Manhas for all of your above and beyond time and commitment toward our family.
