In Loving Memory ~
It is with great sadness and loss that we announce the passing of William "Bill" Beedie on the morning of November 20, 2021. He passed away peacefully and with grace at the age of 71 in his home on Gabriola after his battle with cancer. Bill was surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his loving wife, Ilona, daughters Donnya, Moya (Darryl) and Kalina (Omar). He loved his girls and when his grandchildren came along, he was even more delighted to have more children around including some boys this time. Bill leaves behind 5 grandchildren: James, Aidan (Jess), Elyse (Mac), Logann and Aliya.
Bill was known for his kindness, compassion for all living things, patience, and generosity. He had a loving smile (cheeky at times) that would welcome anyone into his life, and he made an instant impact. Everyone loved our "Billy Boy". His passion was fishing and being on the water. Bill so enjoyed his garden and spent many hours working outside and being with nature. He was known for relaxing with a cigarette and a beer and loved to have his Scotch. Bill loved travelling. In fact, he met Ilona in Venice while she was hitch hiking with her best friend. In recent years, Bill loved going to Mexico. You could always find him chatting with the bartender and visiting locals or just relaxing in his own peace and quiet. One other interesting fact, Bill was a great prospector who staked many claims in Copper Canyon and loved archeology.
Bill was born in Scotland and lived in England when he started his family with Ilona. Although he immigrated to Canada in 1975 with his wife and daughters, he continued to have a Scottish accent and was known for sayings such as "Jeepers" and "You must be joking".
Bill was a mechanic for his entire life. He worked in Nanaimo for 34 years. In 2010, he moved to Gabriola after acquiring Gabriola Automotive in 2008. He was a hard worker and loved going to the shop. He will be missed by so many including residents of Gabriola Island, many families, and friends.
He will be deeply missed but always remembered! A small family gathering will be held at a later date. Bill loved to donate and support young people. Please consider donating to a non-profit organization of your choice in honor of Bill.
