Bill Bate passed away peacefully in the company of loving family at the Broadmead Veterans Lodge in Victoria, BC at the age of 87.
Bill was predeceased by Mary Ann (Tutt), his loving wife of 57 years, son Robert (Bob) and daughter Janet.
Bill is survived by his son William (Hallmuth) and daughters, Sue, Sandra (Connie) and Anne. Grandchildren, Joseph, Brittany, Meaghan, Sarah, James and great grandchildren, Hannah and Liam.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Bill was the son of the late Wiliam Bate, (WW1 Vimy Veteran) and the late Lena Bate (Boyle). Bill was the 5th child of 6 children and up until his passing the sole survivor.
Bill joined the Royal Canadian Air Force at the age of 17 and proudly served his country for 32 years as a Photographer. He had many postings throughout his career but once he got to Comox, BC. He and his wife, Mary Ann decided this was where they wanted to retire and built their dream home on Noel Avenue.
Bill and Mary Ann took yearly road trips down to Yuma Arizona with friends and family during the winter months to get away from the Westcoast winters.
Bill was one of the first members of 888 Wing Association, Comox and was known for his incredible BBQ steak skills, his piano playing talents and for always cracking jokes and telling stories.
He will be sadly missed by all who knew him, but we take great comfort knowing he is with the love of his life, Mary Ann and all his family and friends that have passed on before him.
A celebration of life will be held at 888 Wing, in Comox BC at a future date.
