Terence Arthur Taylor (September 17, 1933) passed away peacefully at Chemainus Hospice on September 29, 2019, age 86.
Terry was born in Ilford, Essex, England. He attended Ilford County High School until called for National Service where he qualified as a pilot officer in the Royal Air Force. In 1952 Terry first came to Canada for further pilot training. Upon returning to England, he married his childhood sweetheart, Pauline Riley. Terry then returned to college and qualified as a teacher.
In 1959, Terry, Pauline, and their two young daughters emigrated to Canada, living in southern Alberta for two years before moving to the Cowichan Valley. Terry taught in the Cowichan Valley for many years, first as teacher and then as principal in various schools. He took early retirement in 1989, then took a teaching position in Brunei for 3.5 years before completely retiring. Terry and Pauline then lived as snowbirds, enjoying the leisurely life of golfing, painting, and winemaking. Terry also involved himself in various sports and service clubs in the valley,most particularly the Cowichan Rugby Club and the Cowichan Golf Club.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife, Pauline, and daughters Sharon (Roy) Roberts and Shelley (Paul) Kay. Also survived by grandchildren Sean (Whitney) Kay, Gareth Goronwy Roberts, Anwen (Tyrone) Roberts, Thomas Kay, Taylor Bintner, Patrick Kay, and great grandson Henry Kay.
At Terry's request, there will be no funeral or service. Donations in Terry's name to the Cowichan Valley Hospice society would be appreciated. Many thanks to Dr. Dan Philippson.
