Simon Patterson Russell beloved father, son, brother, nephew and cousin. Born September 14, 1989. Died April 8, 2024.

Simon's journey was not an easy one. Plagued by mental health and addiction challenges, he struggled to realize the dreams he had for himself and his family.

Through it all, his light still shone. He was funny, warm, engaging, scarily intelligent, and devoted to his family and friends. A gifted musician, he could light up the room with a song.

Growing up, Simon excelled at everything athletic.....soccer, hockey, tennis, and cross-country, each providing an outlet for his constant energy. Of late, his athletic interests included a truly fanatical interest in the Canucks. He so hoped that this would be their year!

Simon was always happiest when he was connected to the earth. Whether it was, braving the massive waves of Barra de Navidad, swimming in the Fair Harbour inlet with his dog, Albert or exploring the "home woods" with Summer, it was in these moments where he truly found joy and peace.

Simon railed at the injustices of the world. His passing due to the unrelenting toxic drug crisis seems the ultimate injustice.

Left to mourn are his daughter, Summer Sky, Summer's mom, Katherine, his mom, Joanne, his dad, Stephen, his sister, Alex, stepdad, Jamie, and a large and magnificent extended family.

A celebration of Simon's life will be held in front of Filberg Lodge on Saturday, April 27th at 2 p.m.

Donations in Simon's memory can be made to any organization dedicated to improving conditions for those unhoused individuals suffering from mental health or addiction in the Comox Valley.
