In loving memory ~
Our beloved mother, Shirley Wood, went on to her heavenly home peacefully on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at the age of 79 years.
Born and raised in the Toronto area, she met and fell in love with Wayne Wood. They ventured west and eventually settled in Grande Prairie, Alberta. While raising their children, Shirley was the backbone of Wayne's successful construction business. They were well-respected not only for their business but also for their community support and involvement. After many busy years, they decided to retire to British Columbia and lived in Ladysmith until Wayne's untimely passing in 2012. Alone for the first time after 49 years of marriage, Shirley lived independently and only after a health scare a couple of years ago, did she agree to be moved into a care home in Nanaimo, BC.
Shirley was a beloved mother and grandmother and a respected Christian. She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, her church, and her community. Shirley lived a beautiful, dignified life. A discerning woman of exquisite taste, she provided comfort and solace while asking little in return.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Wayne Wood, son, Barry Wood as well as her parents Isabel and Dave Given.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Brian Wood, Brad Wood and Brenda Wood. She was the cherished grandmother of Madison Burden and Shayla Wood and great-grandmother to Lukas White. She is also survived by her siblings, Dave (Shelley) and Donnie (Flavia) Given as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private burial will take place at a later date.
A special thank you to Berwick on the Lake Care Home for all you did for our mom, we know she lived peacefully there and considered so many of the staff and her other children, and we are grateful for the relationships you built with her.
