Passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family, after a brief battle with breast cancer.
Survived by her husband of 58 years, Ray Neil, children Kim (Rob) Weaver and Scott (Denise) Neil; grand-children Zoey (Evan) and Luke Weaver; and nieces and nephews.
Shirley was born in Saskatoon, Sask., attended school in Leask, Sask., and graduated from nursing school in Prince Albert, Sask. at the Victoria Hospital in 1957.
Married to Ray in 1960 in Saskatoon, they moved to Vancouver Island in 1967, and settled in Nanaimo in 1968. Shirley loved to bowl, and was a great fan of hockey, curling and tennis. She volunteered many hours for School District 68, and the Nanaimo Kennel Club.
The family would like to thank Dr. T. Swanson, Dr. P. Truong of the BCCA, and especially nurse Dianna and the Home Care team that allowed Shirley to remain at home. Their compassion and care is greatly appreciated.
No service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BCCA or SPCA.
