April 27, 1967 – April 22, 2023
It is with profound sadness that the family of Shaun Patrick Rodgers announce his sudden passing on April 22, 2023 as a result of a medical condition.
He will be deeply missed by his parents Brian and Sandra, his only brother Scott, his wife Shannon, his daughters Sarah and Roberta (Josh), his nieces Casey and Devin and his sister-in-law Amber.
Shaun was a wonderful man whose gift for connecting with people enabled him to maintain a close bond with his large extended family and friends despite geographical distances, and he will be missed greatly by his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Shaun was born in Quesnel, BC on April 27, 1967, and spent his formative years building lifelong friendships in Campbell River, BC, before moving to the Vancouver area to attend University.
He was intelligent in many ways, allowing him to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, his Bachelor of Education, and his Masters degree in Counselling. In addition to being book-smart and very adept in mathematics, Shaun also possessed a high emotional intelligence, providing the framework for an excellent and highly empathetic teacher.
Shaun started his career at Earl Marriott Secondary as a youth care worker in 1996 and returned to teach there until June of 2022. He then transferred to Grandview Heights Secondary in September of 2022. He loved teaching and possessed an innate ability to establish positive relationships with his students and colleagues. Many of his former colleagues, students and their parents have shared what a positive impact he has had on their lives.
We are all better for having known and loved this amazing man.
A Private Funeral will take place at Valley View Funeral Home and Cemetery.
A Community Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 19 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m at Morgan Creek Golf Course in the Fraser Room. Please RSVP to assist the family in preparation for this event to shaunrodgersCOL@gmail.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Epilepsy Society where Shaun was a member for several years.
