In loving memory ~
We are so sad to announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Grandpa. Dad had a wonderful life full of adventure, love and joy. Dad was born in Durban, South Africa. He loved being outdoors and has entertained us with the many stories of encounters with snakes, monkeys, sharks and other African wildlife.
Dad was an avid surfer and would laugh at how he was usually on the outside of the shark nets. Dad became a boy scout and would be the leader of his group for many years. This love of the outdoors was a thread in our lives as camping every weekend in the summers was our family tradition. Dad also travelled all around the world as a young man visiting every continent except Australia. Dad had many jobs as a young man and worked in the copper and diamond mines in Africa. Dad also had many jobs that he would take on as he travelled around the world.
Dad became a journeyman electrician and this was his job until he retired. When Dad met our Mom they wed and then immigrated to Canada; a country that Dad had travelled through and loved. Dad and Mom eventually settled in Kamloops, BC. Dad was an amazing father and was always there to love and support us 3 children. Dad was a musician and played many instruments. He loved the piano and had a perfect musical ear. Dad could play any song without sheet music and we were blessed by his talent. When Dad and Mom retired the travelling bug hit again. They were off for many years in their fifth wheel travelling throughout Canada and the USA. They also did a cross country trek on their motorcycle. They moved to Vancouver Island 25 years ago and settled in Qualicum Beach. The arrival of grandchildren brought total joy to Dad. He loved playing with the kids and took them camping and shared his life with them. Dad had amazing bushy eyebrows that all the kids loved to grab. Dad loved sports and was an avid ice curler and floor curler right up to his 90's. Dad will be greatly missed but we are so grateful for his love, guidance, and support.
