September 7, 2020
1928-2020 ~ After a good and long life, Roger Lizee passed away peacefully at his home in Port Hardy on September 7, 2020.
Roger was born in New Westminster, British Columbia and moved to Port Hardy in the 1960s where he owned and operated a trucking and transportation company for many years.
He was involved in many other businesses and investments in Port Hardy including a partnership in the Dave Landon Ford dealership and gas station.
When he first moved to Port Hardy, Roger lived in the old jail house building near the airport and his guests were often billeted to the old jail cells. He moved to Storey's Beach (Beaver Harbour Park) in the 1970s where he built his own house.
Roger lived life to the full. He loved the outdoors and was host to many friends and visitors to Port Hardy where he took them fishing, crabbing and clam digging. He was a great host and a great home cooking chef famous for his feasts of fish, game, crabs, and huge pots of his famous clam chowder.
Roger was also an avid skier and spent many days skiing at Whistler Mountain where he was widely known for his own particular style of skiing and his boisterous presence on the mountain.
Over the years Roger provided many great employment opportunities to young people from Vancouver at his gas station, and through his connections in the commercial fishing and logging industries.
All of those young people (now older), are forever grateful to Roger for those opportunities to work in and around Port Hardy and for Roger's down-home wisdom and advice on how to live a good life.
Many thanks to David Deans and his family and other friends who looked out for Roger in his later years.
Roger has left a legacy to the District of Port Hardy to be dedicated to maintaining and improving Beaver Harbour Park, a place where he loved to gather crabs and dig for clams.
Roger will be greatly missed and remembered forever by his many friends, and his family.
