We are sad to announce the recent passing of Richard Rogers after a valiant battle with cancer.
Rick was born in Dodsland, Sask. and grew up on the family farm in Plenty, Sask. After attending the University of Saskatchewan, Rick returned to the farm in 1970 and worked alongside his father John until 2004.
Included in his many accomplishments, Rick was a member of Kinsmen from 1975 to 1985 and a member of the Kinsman Foundation where he reached level of Chairman. Rick was a member of the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool and sat on the committee that built the Inland Terminal in Kindersley, Sask. He was also on the Unified Boards of Plenty United Church.
In 2012, Rick and wife Jo retired to Nanaimo, B.C. Rick still kept busy working casually as a food demonstrator for Costco and as a courier delivering wholesale pharmaceuticals.
Rick loved to travel, visited many places and was looking forward to a river cruise to Bordeaux and Portugal. Unfortunately that trip never happened. Shortly after COVID-19 placed Islanders into quarantine, Rick was diagnosed with sinus cancer.
Rick leaves behind his loving wife Joanna Meerman, his little dog Zoë, his two sons Derek (Jennifer) of Calgary, Travis of Camrose, Alta, his two stepsons Jeff Meerman (Dale) of New Westminster, B.C., Tim Meerman of Toronto and his sister Shelley Smith of Calgary. Rick is predeceased by his parents John and Lucille of Calgary and his beloved uncle Bernard Persick of Kingston, ON.
Rick requested no funeral or memorial and instead requested donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, designated to head and neck cancer research.
