Ray passed away peacefully in the Mountainview unit of "The Views" on March 20th. Many thanks to Drs. Manuel and Hunter and the very dedicated and compassionate staff at Mountainview.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, Ray resided in Kitimat for 32 years and retired to the Comox Valley in 1995. Predeceased by his parents, Fred and Alice Ellis of Aberdeen, Scotland and his sister Freda. Raymond is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lee Ellis; son, Andrew (Charlotte) of Comox; daughters, Caireen (Stefan Palfi) of Parksville, Fiona of Haida Gwai; grandchildren, Megan Ellis (Matthew Proulx) of Victoria BC, Caitlin Ellis of Victoria BC; and sister Alison (John McLauchlan) of Aberdeen, Scotland.

Ray was a long-time scout leader in Scotland and Canada, a member of the Alpine Club of Canada and a member of the Comox Valley Presbyterian Church.

Ray came to Canada in 1958 as a naval architect at the St. John, New Brunswick drydock. He moved to BC in 1961 to be close to mountains. For 32 years beginning in 1963, Ray and Lee resided in Kitimat where he worked at Alcan for 10 years and the Kitimat school district for 23 years as building superintendent.

Ray enjoyed hiking, mountain climbing, backpacking and 5th wheeling all over Canada and southern USA.

Ray was a soft-spoken gentle man. He loved interacting with others - listening to their life stories as he shared his. Being outdoors and caring for his garden were his other joys. Ray was an avid reader of BC history and greatly appreciated classical music.

Flowers gratefully declined. Donations to the Mountainview unit of "The Views" would be very much appreciated.

A service for Raymond Ellis will take place at 11 am on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at Comox Valley Presbyterian Church, 725 Aspen Rd., Comox BC.
