April 7, 1931 – January 17, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olga January 17, 2021 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. Olga was born in Sifton, Manitoba where she and her brother William (Heather) lived with their mother and grandmother.
In 1950 she married William Antonichuk (deceased) and they raised Christine (deceased), Randy (Jocelyn), Robert (Susan), Peggy (Bill), Brenda (Jim-deceased), and Darrell in Flin Flon, Manitoba. 47 years ago, she met her current husband John McFarland and they moved to Vancouver Island. After many happy years in Maple Bay they retired to Nanaimo to be closer to family.
Olga was delighted to have such a large family. Her grandchildren include Amy (Larry), Shyla (Neil), Fawn (Darren), Toby (deceased), Joey, John (Chrystal), Anastasia (John); Great grandchildren Courtnay, Zander, Conner, Harper, Sloan and Evelyn and great great grandchild Mei.
Olga was a masterful baker and cook. She would joyfully feed a houseful of people with a humble “twas nothing”. She had a green thumb that resulted in beautiful roses and an abundant vegetable garden.
She generously shared fresh veggies, breads, homemade jams and her famous perogies. Olga had a lifelong love of learning with a keen appetite for reading. She enjoyed playing bingo. Olga also gifted people with her sincere and genuine interest in their lives and as such she deeply touched many lives. Her husband John and the rest of her family were her greatest joy and she will be dearly missed by us all.
Our gratitude to the nurses and doctor from 1st floor NRGH for their tender care. A special thank to Doctor Ontko for his compassionate care.
Due to Covid there will be no memorial service, a private family get together will take place when it is safe to do so.
Flowers are gratefully declined however if you wish please consider a donation to your local Salvation Army
