September 11, 1999 – April 28, 2020
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our most beloved Niels.
Niels was born in Langley, BC on September 11, 1999 as the fourth child of Dutch immigrants Marga and Fred de Boer, being the little brother to Tom, Laura and Ingrid.
Growing up in the Langley area Niels made friends wherever he would go. He attended MEI schools in Abbotsford, followed by KSS in Qualicum Beach. His smile was ever contagious, and his friendly demeanor would win over hearts wherever he set foot. His passion was to travel all over the world, and he did so without a worry or fear. At the age of 18 he already embarked on a journey all over the European continent, to satisfy his craving to engage in different cultures and languages (and to make new friends of course).
Upon return to BC Niels focused on his future by attending the University of the Fraser Valley, while working at the family business. Niels’ study was later continued at Vancouver Island University, where he reunited with old friends from the area.
Nelis, as he was called from time to time, was an intelligent young man; always enriching his knowledge on a broad spectrum of topics. Not necessarily in the classroom however, but more so independently. As soon as the next edition of the Economist magazine would be out, or if there was a book to be read (written in a foreign language or not), he would be all over it.
Niels leaves behind his parents Fred de Boer and Marga Wilson (Andy), his big brother Tom (Allie), and his sisters Laura and Ingrid (Sander).
Also left to mourn are his grandparents de Boer and Ruijgrok, close friend Laura, all the aunts and uncles, cousins, Cora, friends and relatives in Canada, the US and all over Europe.
Funeral services were held in private in Parksville on May 9, 2020 with a celebration to be held later. The exact location and date to be announced, please register via the email below.
We ask for condolences and contact information to be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
