Mitchell (Mitch) Plumpton

July 10, 2022
Mitch passed away unexpectedly on July 10th, 2022, at the youthful age of 63. He was a lifetime resident of Nanaimo who took early retirement in 2014 from his career with Western Forest Products. He enjoyed listening to the radio, hikes in the outdoors, culture, history, and nature, exploring this through his travels to the USA, eastern Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Scotland, Spain, Portugal, England and Wales. Mitch lived life on his own terms and was a homebody; he enjoyed completing odd jobs around the house, basking in the sun, and tending to his yard.
Mitch was predeceased by his maternal grandparents: John Banasky, Ruth Banasky & Ray Holloway, and, by his paternal grandparents: Margaret Rock, Billy & Maude Mitchell, Derek Plumpton, and Barney Bestwick. He was also predeceased by his father Clive Plumpton, niece Shelby Dibblee, and In-laws Bob & Cath Walker.
He is survived by his wife and partner of 38 years, Christine, and siblings: Gary (Consuelo) Plumpton and Donna Edgar; step-siblings: Linda (Bernie) Huedepohl, Shawna Lockhart, Dennis (Michelle) Smith, Jim Skribolit, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother Sheila Plumpton (Ken Smith), mother-in-law Bobbin Hicks de Plumpton, brother-in-law Rob (wife Tina & niece Fiorie) Walker, Aunts: Diane Bestwick, Susan (Jim) McKenna, Kim (Bill) Lougheed, and Uncle Grant (Vee) Bestwick, which includes all of their families.
Mitch was blessed with an extensive network of related cousins and close friends. He was an all around “good guy” and faithful friend who accepted others as he found them. Mitch’s sudden death left a gaping hole in my life that I will try to fill with the love we shared. One of his favourite sayings was “without rain, there can be no rainbows…”
A private gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements through Sands in Nanaimo with cremation remains to be placed into a niche structure at the Forest Walk of Memories, Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens in Cedar, BC.
