September 1, 1928 - April 30, 2022
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mom, Grandma & Great Granny.
On Saturday, April 30, 2022, Mary passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family. She was 93 years old.
Mary was born on September 1,1928 in Soda Lake, Alberta. She moved to Cedar, BC with her family in 1945. She has since been a member of the North Oyster community, residing on her hobby farm for the past 57 years.
She is predeceased by her husband, Allan Bystrom formerly "Dogwood Dan" of Ladysmith Days.
Mary will be greatly missed by her four children - daughters Janet Limin, Ingrid Harlow, Sherry Bystrom and son, Robin Bystrom as well as 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was survived by her sister, Ann Jackson who sadly has since passed away on May 4, 2022. The two sisters are now reunited. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Anyone that knew Mary knows how much she loved to be outdoors. She farmed until her last days. Her chickens, geese, plants and in prior years, her cattle were her passion and gave her purpose each and every day.
Her loyal 4 legged Blue Heeler companion, Ninety was never far from her side. In her younger years, Mary could be found filling up her car with thrift stores treasures with her best friend, Rose Olsen and bringing home young calves or kittens from the Duncan auction with her grandchildren.
Mary was many things to many people. She had a generous heart, she loved unconditionally and without judgment. Her smile was infectious. She always saw the best in every situation and was resourceful beyond measure. And you better have had some time because she always told the most colourful stories.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Island Health Home Nursing Care Team. We appreciate your kindness and supportive care for our Mom, Grandma and Great Granny.
We now have our own special Guardian Angel watching over us. Rest In Peace, we will love you forever and always.
