In loving memory ~

Born in Islay, Alberta February 25, 1927

Died in Duncan, B.C. September 28, 2023

It is with sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved mother. She will be missed! Peggy spent her childhood on the family farm near Marwayne, Alberta. After graduating from high school she moved to Victoria to attend Normal School where she attained her Teaching Certification. Her first teaching position was in Parksville, B.C. It was here that she met her husband of 70 years, Phil Bass. They started their family (2 daughters) in Parksville before moving to Terrace, B.C. in 1952 for a new job for Phil. Two sons were added over the next few years and for 17 years Mum was busy raising the family as well as participating in many community activities. Mum was a great cook and gardener as well as a knitter and seamstress. She seemed to be able to conquer any task/craft she tried. Her volunteer work involved working with children and families and the local library. These activities were central to her throughout her life. In 1969 the family returned to Parksville where she continued to be involved in anything gardening including being the secretary of the Coombs Fall Fair for 25 years and running a stall at the Errington Farmers' Market along with Phil. In Parksville, Mum turned her love of books into a paying job and worked at the Library until her retirement.

A move to Duncan in 2000 brought our parents closer to family with the added benefit of being involved in various family activities. Volunteering (Hospital Auxiliary, Providence Farm and the Naturalist's Club) continued to be part of Mum's weekly routine up until recently. The joy of gardening was with her until the end; her flower gardens greet residents, staff and visitors at Abbeyfield, Mum's home for the last 5 years.

'Gran' formed close friendships with her 11 grandchildren and enjoyed being in touch with them and following their lives throughout the years. This relationship was also carried over to her 16 great-grandchildren who have all been fortunate to know their 'Great Gran.

When we (her kids) have talked with the many friends and relatives that she has left behind we have enjoyed hearing the stories of what she has meant to each of you. Thank you.
