November 5, 1949 - September 13, 2021
Passed away peacefully at Cowichan District Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Calgary, Alberta to Bob & Phyllis Shine, survived by husband of 50 years Dave Rife, sons Neil (Cheryl), Patrick (Joanne), grandson Ezra, sister Judy (Anthony), sisters in law Jean (Bill), Irene (Mel) and several nephews and nieces. Predeceased by brothers Rick, Darrell and sisters Debora and Linda.
Jo Anne was an "Army Brat" in her younger years as she moved with her family to several places that her Dad was posted including 2 stints in Germany. After getting married to Dave in Victoria they lived in Nanaimo, New Westminster and finally settling in Duncan in 1992.
Jo Anne was a licensed hairdresser and worked various salons in Victoria and New Westminster. She was active with Holy Trinity Cathedral in New Westminster and St Peters Church, Duncan for a number of years and was a long time member of Cowichan Valley Quilters Guild.
She loved the outdoors and although unable to hike because of health issues did enjoy kayaking. Her passions were her family, friends and quilting. The sign on her sewing room door read "She who dies with the most fabric - wins" and if she didn't win she was a close second.
Thanks to the wonderful staff at CDH for the loving kindness provided during her last days and special thanks to Dr Pullan and Dr Thompson for their exceptional care for Jo Anne through some difficult times.
In lieu of flowers please consider a cash donation to a local food bank.
