Harriet Amy Waldie (Hetty)

Harriet Amy Waldie (Hetty) 1928 – 2021

Hetty was born in Trail BC on January 5, 1928, to mother, Amy (nee Asselstine) and father, Andrew Waldie. She passed away, peacefully, at the age of 93 at the Views at St. Joseph in Comox. It was just her time.

Hetty was predeceased by her parents, as well as brothers Adam, Art, Allan, David, and Glen. She is survived by brother Jim of Gibsons, sister Ruth of Courtenay and sisters-in-law Leona (Adam) and Ena (Glen). She was a very proud Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

After high school, Hetty attended Trail Business College and then worked at the CS Williams Clinic and for Dr. Toll’s Dentist office. In 1953 she joined the Canadian Air Force where she did map plotting on the base in Rivers Manitoba. She also spent a short time living in Bella Coola with her sister while Ruth taught her first year of elementary school.

In 1961, Hetty moved to Vancouver, and worked for her brother Adam in his medical clinic until she retired. She was a very devout member of the West Point Grey Baptist Church while living in Vancouver.

After Hetty retired she moved to Courtenay to be closer to Ruth. She joined St. Georges United Church and was a devout parishioner there for many years. Hetty loved to be with family, and she joined in on many visits and outings with Ruth and John.

Hetty was the family historian. She took and collected many photographs over the years and put together albums preserving her family’s history. A treasure she was very proud of and is passing down to one of her family members.

The family would like to acknowledge the special relationship that Hetty had with Marie during her years living in Courtenay. Marie was a constant friend and companion, and we are so grateful for the friendship and joy she brought into to Hetty’s life.

A service will be held at a later date at St Georges United Church in Courtenay. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the church. https://www.stgeorgesunited.com/giveObituary
