It is with deep sadness we share that on August 14, 2021 Fred passed away peacefully in Port Alberni. He leaves behind his wife Sue, son Amos (his wife Justine Comeau and their children Poppy and Gus), daughter Jenny Comeau (her husband Brandon Quinn and their children Josephine and Teddy); and daughter Christina (her husband Henry and their daughter Allie).
He is predeceased by his parents Fred and Ida Comeau; his older sister Donna MacDonald and his younger sister Bonnie Howard.
Fred was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick on December 13, 1942. As a boy, Fred loved exploring nature with his scout troop, tinkering with anything electronic or mechanical, and playing with the neighbourhood kids on York Street.
He graduated from Bathurst High School in 1960 and obtained an Engineering degree from the University of New Brunswick in 1966. Fred worked in the pulp and paper industry as a chemical engineer in BC, Ontario and Newfoundland before setting down roots with his wife Sue in the Alberni Valley in 1977.
Fred and Sue created a warm and welcoming home on the shores of Sproat Lake; often hosting friends and family for a quick swim or a long holiday stay. Fred was an engaged and kind-hearted father - he could often be found playing on the floor with his kids. The family enjoyed skiing on Mount Washington and hiking the wilds of Vancouver Island, often with their good friends the Youngs.
The music and companionship of the Sunday Morning Group gave Fred much joy. The thoughtful and warm membership of the group enriched his life in so many ways.
Fred's grandchildren were the light of the later years of his life. He loved every second that he got to spend as Grampie with his grandchildren.
