In Loving Memory ~

Michael (Mike) Patton, beloved husband, father, uncle, brother, and friend bravely faced challenges to his health until he passed away on March 18, 2024.

Mike was born and raised in Calgary, AB and studied horticulture at Olds College and later public administration at the University of Guelph.

Mike then began his career in Alberta, contributing his agricultural skills in Calgary, Grand Prairie, and Edmonton where he oversaw the construction of the lawn bowling facilities for the 1978 Commonwealth Games, while raising two small children (Greg & Christine).

In 1981, after the birth of his third child (Katherine), he relocated with his family to Nanaimo, BC, excited to begin his new role as the Manager of Parks and Construction for the city—a role he would hold until his retirement.

During his tenure, Mike was very proud of his work in revitalizing the Nanaimo waterfront and enriching the downtown core and city with additions such as a performing arts theatre, a new aquatics centre, and a stunning welcome sign.

Following retirement, Mike and his wife, Pat, resided in Toronto, then Vancouver, before ultimately settling in Victoria.

Since high school, Mike had a passion for the performing arts, actively participating as Director, Actor, Writer and stagehand in local amateur theatre groups in Nanaimo. Mike adored his time with the Yellow Point Drama Group and the Nanaimo Theatre Group, often involving the whole family in a production. He loved watching movies, dissecting every detail and discussing his critiques with friends and family.

He was also an avid motorcyclist and made sure everyone loved his Harley Davidson as much as him.

He will be missed by his wife Pat, children Greg (Lauree), Christine (Sameer), and Katherine (Matt) and his grandchildren, who he adored, Abby, Basel, Owen, and Avery, his brother Paul (Irene) and nieces Monika and Tiana, his brother Ross and his many in-laws, nieces and nephews in Pat's family.

He will be missed for his passion for life and his wonderfully embellished stories.

Thanks to his doctors Mike Lee and Atiya Waheed and the specialists and staff of Island Health for all your care and attention in making Mike comfortable in his last days.
