Eva Violet Bardessono died peacefully on February 24, 2019 at the age of 100 at the Cumberland Lodge, just two blocks from the home she was born in.

Violet was predeceased by her husband Peter Bardessono in 1995 after 55 years of marriage and her brother Charlie Scavarda (1994). She will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Diana (Rudi) Burg; Arlene (John) Hoem; and Lois (Gordon) Harris, 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren and sisters Laureen (Ted) Williams, Hilda (Bill) Cook and numerous nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Violet's life was a full and active one. She loved community dances at the CRI hall. Many hours were spent walking in the evenings with her cousins and friends. Violet was part of a large Italian community. Singing songs from the old country and playing Casina (an Italian card game) filled many hours. Violet did not learn English until she attended grade school.

She married Peter Bardessono at the age of 21 on July 6, 1940. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Diana was born in 1942 and her sister Arlene joined the family in 1943 followed by Lois in 1954.

Violet and Pete had their first cabin near Cruikshank River on Comox Lake. They would spend most summer weekends at the cabin, travelling 8 miles by boat up the lake. Once their youngest daughter was born her husband Pete built another family cabin near Whyte's Bay because Violet refused to travel by boat with a newborn.

Violet's life was spent giving. She gave of herself to her family, her church and her community. An active member of the Catholic Women's League for more than 54 years, she belonged to the Altar Society in Cumberland for 15 years prior. She served teas to the seniors and made many meals for shut-ins when she was well into her seventies.

Violet enjoyed visiting family and friends and was a great story teller. She had the ability to make everyone she met feel extra special.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the exceptional care that Violet was given by the staff who became like family at the Cumberland Lodge.
