November 17, 1943 – October 18, 2021
In Loving Memory ~
Our precious and amazing husband and father Don Merry passed away peacefully on October 18, 2021 into the arms of his Lord and Saviour. Don was born in Quebec but resided in the Cowichan Valley for 70 years.
Don’s passions were spending time with his family, playing bridge and swimming. Don played bridge for over 40 years at local bridge clubs. He participated with Nancy in many bridge tournaments, both near and far. Don reached the A.C.B.L. level of Sapphire Life Master – a true accomplishment! Don and Nancy met many good friends and had great times with the Bridge community.
To keep in shape Don swam regularly at the Duncan pool for over 40 years.
Family was everything to Don. His purpose in life was to provide for his beloved wife and sons. Don and Nancy cherished each other, were soul mates and best friends. They were rarely apart and were so blessed to have 40 years together.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved son Mark (2017). We take great comfort that Don and Mark are together again.
Don is survived by his beloved wife Nancy and his adored son Matthew. He was more than a father to Matt, he was his mentor and best friend.
Don is also survived by his son Donald Jr. (Lisa & grandchildren Christopher & Catherine); sisters-in-law Marian Hynd (Roy-deceased, Andrew & Megan), Kate Merry (Gerald, Doug, Tracy & family); brother-in-law David Benjamin (Jen, Joel, Michael & family).
Predeceased by parents Eleanor & Rene Merry and his only brother Douglas.
Don will be missed beyond words by Nancy, family and friends. He was a quiet, kind, generous, strong man with a “twinkle in his eye” and a “quirky” sense of humour.
Due to Covid restrictions, a private service will be held.
God Bless you my darling Don. Safe in the Arms of Jesus
