In Loving Memory ~
"My family are my good friends, and my good friends are my family." This was the message to all of us when he left in his 90th year. His final day was one to treasure and worth the read. Find Don's story at First Memorial Funeral Services in Nanaimo.
Don graduated from UBC in 1959 with a degree in Physical Education which led him to Nanaimo teaching physical education at NDSS. He brought Red Cross water safety to small towns all over BC, was instrumental in starting the BC high school wrestling program and took hundreds of students down the West Coast Trail.
He excelled at socializing, building boats, amateur theatre and being a father.
His dream was to circumnavigate the globe. In retirement he built his last sailboat, Viski, and she took him around the world.
He had a big heart.
Thanks go to Long Lake Chateau and Island Health for keeping him content and comfortable and Nanaimo Regional General Hospital for giving him end of life options and care.
Don is survived by three children and seven grandchildren and a myriad of close friends.
