August 12, 1960 - January 26, 2020
Damian Robert Arthurs of Duncan, BC, succumbed after a long, quiet battle with cancer. Predeceased by his father, James (November 2018), Damian leaves behind to mourn his mother, Norah, brother, Tony, sister, Lisa, loving aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and many good friends.
Damian played ice and field hockey at a high level, graduated high school at Brentwood College School, and attended college in Victoria and Edmonton. At his core, however, Damian was an artist who expressed himself through music. He was an accomplished guitarist who travelled Canada during the 1980s and brought happiness to so many. He also worked in mines in northern BC and on construction sites in Alberta, where he was married and had a son, Ryan, who just recently came back into his life much to Damian's delight.
Brain injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident at 17 changed Damian's life forever. These were subsequently compounded by a workplace accident some years later. Over time, these affected his ability to work and play his beloved guitar. Undeterred, Damian remained a gentle, compassionate, and optimistic man whose soft manner belied his great strength of character. His generosity and self-deprecating humour were well known to his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by all those who had the very good fortune to know him.
The family wishes to thank the doctors at the BC Cancer Clinics in Victoria and Vancouver, and especially Dr. Harkishen Sahota, Dr. Valerie Masuda, nurses Brian and Joseph, and all the staff at Cowichan District Hospital for their excellent care during Damian's final days.
A service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 1, at St. Edward's Church (2085 Maple Bay Rd, Duncan) followed by a reception at the same location.
