Calvin David Hoffman

December 26, 2020
Calvin David Hoffman passed away peacefully on December 26, 2020, surrounded by loving family.
Born in Lacombe, Alberta in 1933 and he grew up in Vernon, B.C. where his family farmed a sizeable orchard. He was the youngest of six siblings.
Cal earned a Masters of Education and taught high school in Vernon until 1968 at which time he decided to attend law school at the University of British Columbia. There he won an award in the area of criminal procedure. He later moved to Fort St. John, B.C. where he purchased the law firm of Levis and Herdy, a firm which had included for a time, Beverly McLaughlin, later Chief Justice of the Canadian Supreme Court. Cal thoroughly enjoyed practicing law in the Peace River country during the gas and oil boom of 1970s and 1980s. There, he developed many deep, life-long friendships.
Cal was a kind and gentle man whose relationship with animals (of all sizes and varieties) could only be described as soulful. He was a man of the land, always working outside on his property when he was not in the office.
When he retired, Cal moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, Creston, Grand Forks, Ladysmith and Nanaimo B.C. always making sure he had a sizeable garden to tend and a couple of dogs to adore. Calvin was married twice, first to Sandra Dall (née Johnson) the mother of his three daughters, and to Juliette Hoffman (née Harris).
Calvin is survived by his three daughters, Lynda (Zave Kaufman), Leslie, and Luri, his five grandchildren, Aaron, Vania, Matthew, Bobby and James, as well as his two great grandchildren Kiona and Alex.
He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.Obituary
