Audrey Lewis passed away 31 August 2018, in Comox, B.C. with family by her side. It is a great loss to her family who adored her and felt blessed they had 94 years of her love, her indomitable spirit and her twinkling eyes. She was predeceased by her husband Vernon Lewis (2003), her sister Dorothea Hayley, and her brothers Wilfred and Richard Baillie. She is survived by her children: Valerie Lewis, Donna Knight (Ry), Patty Lewis (Grant), Kathy Brownsey (Keith), Bruce Lewis (Ann), and Linda Lewis (her best friend); her grandchildren Elena Veldman (Paul), Laura Knight, Zachary Paradis, Philip, Duncan and Sophie Brownsey, and Noah and Sam Lewis; her two great grandchildren, August and Shiloh Veldman; and many nieces and nephews. Her family was everything to her and this is one of her greatest legacies. I’m sure she was secure in knowing that the family will continue to gather together after her passing because of the bonds she built.
Audrey was born in Saskatoon, 10 April 1924 to William and Martha Baillie. She had many fond memories of holidays with her family at Emma Lake and her nursing studies at Saskatoon City Hospital. She ventured into the wider world by becoming a flight attendant with TCA when the requirements were to be petite and an RN. Her travel with TCA took her through the East Coast where Mom met her Vern and began their family. Six kids later and after many years on the East Coast she moved to Comox where she would work as a TB nurse with the Courtenay Health Unit. When she retired she honed her skills as a bridge player and a shopper. Through her working and retired life, she showed all of her family what could be accomplished with hard work, kindness, and a good sense of humour. And what style she had! We will all miss her so much.
Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Audrey’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
