January 3, 1927 - August 31, 2022
Annie Dorothy Scott, 95, a long time resident of Victoria, BC died peacefully at her care home on August 31, 2022.
Dorothy was born in Blackie, Alberta on January 3, 1927 to parents Harold (Pop) and Ellen (Nell) Ward. In 1938, the family (Pop, Nell, Dorothy & younger brother Jack) moved to Union Bay. Pop took over ownership of the "Home" garage and drove the school bus route. It was here that siblings Dick and Joy were born.
In her twenties, Dorothy met and married Alan Fletcher while working at Fletcher's Music in Courtenay. A new chapter in her life began with a move to Nanaimo in 1951, followed by the births of children Robert, Leslie and Christian. She always said that her greatest joy was being a mother.
In 1977, Dorothy married Murray Scott and moved to Victoria. She was active in Murray's business Gregg's Furniture Factory for many years, enjoying the positive relationships she developed with staff. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for over 70 years and had many lasting friendships with group members.
Dorothy had a life-long love of music and was accomplished in both piano and singing. As a young woman, her beautiful voice caught the attention of those who requested that she sing at weddings both inside and outside the community. Later in life, she joined the Avalon Singers choir in Victoria, singing with them for several years. Even in her advancing years, Dorothy actively participated in the sing-a-longs in her care home and once in her room, would spontaneously break into song, much to the delight of visitors and staff.
Dorothy (Dot) loved people. She had a marvelous sense of humour and could light up any room she entered with her outgoing personality. The family would like to thank Dr. Cavers and Dr. Brook for her care over the years and a special thank you to the caring staff of Hart House who made her twilight years so comfortable.
Left to mourn her passing are her sons Robert (Margo) and Christian (Candace), daughter Leslie (Bill), grand-daughter Alaina (Gideon), great-grandson Cole plus her stepchildren Bob (Celia), Jim (Carol Ann), Sharon (Craig), and step-grandchildren Lauren, Kristen, Emily and Robson.
Dorothy is predeceased by her first husband Alan, second husband Murray and brother Jack. She is survived by her brother Dick (Joyce) and sister Joy.
There will be a small service in Union Bay for immediate family members. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the BC Cancer Foundation.
