THIELMANN, Anna

It is with sadness that the family of Anna Thielmann announces her passing on Monday, March 29, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Anna was born in the village of Blumenort #7 which was located in Ukraine or Russia depending on the war borders. She was the second oldest of seven children. Anna met her future husband, Aron, in 1943 and they were eventually married in Romania. In 1944 they had their son, John. After the war, they learned that Canada was accepting refugees if they were sponsored. Anna had an uncle in Black Creek that was willing to sponsor them, and that is where they decided to go. They both worked odd jobs, until Anna got a job as a housekeeper for some cabins near Saratoga Beach. Her employer offered to teach her English. Through all their hard work, Anna and Aron were able to build a new house on their farm, buy a boat for fishing, cars and much more. After Aron’s passing in 1991, Anna eventually sold the farm they lived on and moved to Saratoga Beach, then to Courtenay. Anna still made the weekly Sunday trip to Black Creek for church service. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Anna will be forever remembered by her son, John; grandchildren Brent, Steve and Kim (Paul) as well as numerous relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life for Anna will be held on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Mennonite Church of Black Creek (2277 Enns Rd.). Memorial donations in Anna’s name may be made to the church.
