The Community Radio Fund of Canada is providing $49,000 to University of Victoria campus radio station CFUV, to fund content development for Indigenous media until July 2022.
The money will allow CFUV to hire two part-time Indigenous media producers to create a podcast centering on a variety of topics.
With mentorship from the station’s Indigenous programming coordinator and award-winning podcast producer, Cassidy Villebrun-Buracas, these roles were designed to be paid learning opportunities.
Positions are open to Indigenous applicants interested in exploring the medium of podcasts, regardless of prior experience.
This funding will be allocated in full for the second year of CFUV’s Documenting Decolonization project. This year will see the production of 20 podcast episodes as well as the facilitation of seven educational workshops.
The first year of the project saw the creation of 10 Indigenous documentaries, five workshop, and presentations by the talent in the realm of Indigenous media.
