Firefighters were battling a bus fire on the corner of Blanshard and Fort Street at about 8:25 a.m. Wednesday.

The vehicle was a Wilson’s Transportion 20-person ‘Mini Coach’ routinely used for airport shuttle routes. Victoria Police on the scene said there was only one passenger—the driver—who is a little shaken but recovering in hospital with no major injuries.

For less than an hour, police blocked off the road along Blanshard Street, disrupting downtown commuters temporarily.

“Our biggest concern is the safety of the general public,” said John Wilson, owner of Wilson’s Transportation. “There will be an investigation as to what caused this… For now we’re just happy that everyone involved is safe and sound.”
