The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are asking for the public’s help to find two people who may know something about a sexual assault on May 16 in Duncan.

RCMP responded to the 200-block of Trans Canada Highway in Duncan on May 16, after a woman reported being sexually assaulted just before 7 p.m. by an unknown man as she was walking on a trail between McAdam Park and Tzouhalem Road and Trunk Road.

In an effort to locate a suspect, police conducted immediate patrols in the area, but didn’t find anyone. A thorough video surveillance canvas was conducted, and several witness statements were taken.

The victim was taken to hospital where she received medical treatment.

Police are hoping to speak with the individual who helped the victim get to the gas station where she was able to call for help. He is described as a man wearing a black t-shirt and grey shorts.

The second individual, who was in the area before the victim called for help, was described as wearing a blue tank top and black shorts.

“Every investigation is unique and we must take considerable care to gather evidence, work with victims and then provide accurate and current information to the public,” said Inspector Chris Bear, North Cowichan/Duncan detachment commander. “Investigators are now seeking the public’s help in identifying these two persons of interest. Police believe these individuals may have crucial information to help advance this investigation.”
