Police follow shoplifter into the woods in Nanaimo and find ATV they suspect was stolen

Police in Nanaimo have a suspected stolen and abandoned ATV they’d like reunite with its owner.

The recreational vehicle was found at about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 2, in some bushes just west of the Nanaimo Parkway, near Woodgrove Centre.

The vehicle was discovered after police followed a suspected shoplifter across the parkway and into some bushes nearby. Minutes later an ATV was heard starting up and officers followed ATV tracks, which led them to the vehicle, which was towed for safekeeping.

The VIN on the green Polaris Sportsman 500 had been removed and to date, the vehicle has not been reported as stolen.

Anyone who recognizes the ATV is asked to call the the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file No. 2023-10864.
