The Surfside RV Resort in Parksville, which endured flooding to the low sections of the area due to water that overflowed from the breakwaters on Jan. 7, will undergo some cleanup work.
Manager Shawn Bennett indicated the water is completely gone and the situation is much better. The area now has power and all the residents are back in their units.
“We are much better than yesterday,” said Bennett. “All the water has receded and now we’re working on cleanup of all the materials that came over the breakwater into people’s lawns and front yard. We’re good.”
A king tide and strong winds caused flooding in the resort that resulted in the power outage. Some residents were given alternate accommodations in hotels by the Oceanside Emergency Services until power was restored.
Bennett said BC Hydro crews worked on the powerlines Saturday.
“What a difference 24 hours makes,” said Bennett. “If the winds were blowing today, things would not have happened.”
He added the resort will also make repairs to some of the fences that were taken out and also to landscaping that was destroyed.
