Parksville Coun. Al Greir wants to limit the number of times a member can speak on a particular subject to help move council business along.
At the city’s most recent meeting, Greir made a notice of motion indicating that, in order to expedite council business in an efficient manner, city staff be directed to amend the City of Parksville Council Procedure Bylaw No. 1541 to add a requirement that council members only be permitted to speak a maximum of two times on a particular subject, unless the member is raising new information not already considered.

According to the council procedure bylaw document, no member is permitted to speak more than once to the same questions until such time as all members of council have been afforded the opportunity to speak, except in explanation of a material part of his or her speech which may have been misconceived, and in doing so, he or she shall not introduce a new matter.
As of yet, there is no stipulation on how many times a council member can speak.
Greir’s motion will be voted on at the next council meeting on Nov. 15.
