Nanaimo man wanted on assault warrants

John Bates wanted following two separate incidents from earlier this year

A Nanaimo man is wanted on warrants related to alleged assaults earlier this year.

Nanaimo RCMP issued a press release today, June 5, asking for the public’s help to try to locate 50-year-old John Bates who is wanted for assault. One of the charges is assault with a weapon, as the suspect is alleged to have broken a bowl over a victim’s head.

“The female did not sustain injuries and each time, Bates fled prior to police arriving,” the press release noted.

Bates is caucasian, 5-foot-6, 150 pounds, and the picture provided is recent. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
