The infamous Nanaimo bar postage stamp is now a part of Nanaimo’s history.
The stamp, part of Canada Post’s recently released Sweet Canada series, can be found displayed at Nanaimo Museum downtown.
A director from Canada Post officially presented Nanaimo Mayor Leonard Krog with a oversized, framed version of the stamp on Tuesday morning at the museum.

Simon Cumming, Canada Post’s director of government and community affairs, West, called the treat “iconic.”
“What Canada Post didn’t anticipate was the online debate that ensued about the relative merits of the thickness of the coating, the filling in the middle, the bottom of the Nanaimo bar,” Cumming said. “What Canada Post learned in that whole process is there is no such thing as a perfect Nanaimo bar.”
The stamp was criticized for the thickness of the Nanaimo bar layers, though a News Bulletin web poll found that readers felt the depiction was “close enough.”

“I’m delighted to receive this on behalf of the good citizens of Nanaimo, who are very proud of so much about this city including its very famous and delicious Nanaimo bar,” said Krog at Tuesday’s event.
He proceeded to present Canada Post with a recipe for Nanaimo bars.
Nanaimo Museum curator Aimee Greenaway said some thought has been given to expanding the museum’s Nanaimo bar exhibit, which also includes representations of the dessert, recipes, a can of custard powder and Nanaimo bar stools.
