Heavy snow will keep falling throughout the day today, forecasts Environment Canada.
The agency issued a snowfall warning Wednesday, Feb. 22, advising that 5-15 centimetres of heavy snow is expected in Nanaimo and neighbouring communities during the day and night.
Environment Canada forecasts “rapidly accumulating” snow.
“Strong outflow winds are likely to give local blowing snow resulting in low visibilities,” the weather warning noted. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.”
Skies are expected to clear Thursday and for part of Friday, but more snow is in the forecast Friday night and Saturday all day, with rain or snow on Sunday.
School are open and RDN Transit is not reporting any snow-related delays or detours.
