Mom, kids tumble down 50-foot embankment on remote road

One seriously injured in single vehicle crash on Bamfield Main Road

One passenger was seriously injured after a truck lost control on the icy road to Bamfield and slid down a 50-foot embankment on Saturday.

Port Alberni RCMP responded to a single vehicle crash on Bamfield Main Road on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 12:10 a.m., approximately 20 minutes south of Port Alberni heading towards Bamfield.

A Ford F150 pickup truck had been travelling southbound when the driver lost control on the icy roads, causing the vehicle to leave the road and slide down a 50 foot embankment.

The truck came to rest partially submerged in some water at the base of the ditch. The driver was able to exit the truck and climb up the steep embankment and flag down help. The truck had four occupants and all had remained dry.

A 22-year-old mother and her two young children were removed from the truck by firefighters and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Three of the occupants received minor injuries, and one suffered a serious but non-life-threatening injury.
