Island transportation options slowed by snow

A rundown of closures and cancellations for Tuesday, February 12

Many businesses and institutions throughout Vancouver Island are closed today due to inclement weather.

The RCMP continues to recommend people stay off of roads, unless absolutely necessary, and only if they have proper tires. Main roads are being tackled by crews, but side streets remain snow covered.

CFB Esquimalt remains closed, with only essential personnel on site.

B.C. Transit warns riders to expect delays and cancellations, and encourages people to check for updates on their website, which is back up and running.

BC Ferries are operating, but experiencing slight delays on sailings to the Gulf Islands.

Numerous flights, arriving and departing, from Victoria International Airport are cancelled or delayed. Comox and Nanaimo airports are also having weather-related issues. Visit their websites for more information on specific flights.

All Island school districts except North Island are closed today, as are: Vancouver Island University, North Island College, Discovery School, Royal Roads University, UVic, and both Interurban and Lansdowne Camosun College campuses.
