After initially delaying the start of classes, Cedar Hill Middle School will be closed all day on Friday following vandalism at the site.

Saanich police said officers responded to alarm at the school at approximately 3:15 a.m., where they discovered several fire extinguishers discharged throughout the building.

In a statement, Saanich police said at least one unknown person had gained entry to the school and that the investigation remains ongoing.

“Unfortunately, given the current condition of the school, crews require additional time to complete cleaning up the damage from last night’s vandalism,” the Greater Victoria School District said in an update around 8:30 a.m.

Anyone that has information or witnessed suspicious activity near the school early Friday morning is asked to call the Saanich Police Department at 250-475-4321, or make an anonymous report through the Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
